What London could do

London was presented as an exceptional working dog, remembered for remarkable demonstrations and the stories that grew around them.

The light-switch story

In Stop! Sit! and Think, Eisenmann identified London as the dog in the familiar light-switch story. Like much of the early story, it tells us what Eisenmann believed and remembered, while leaving the exact date open.

Public performance

Contemporary reporting described highly trained dogs responding to complex requests in Eisenmann’s shows. London’s fame grew through that world of rehearsed routines, audience expectation and careful handling.
