Contemporary reports described complex requests and carefully staged routines. They show how impressive the performances were to audiences, while leaving the workings of each response to the training room.
The dogs as a team
London’s fame sometimes obscured the other dogs who appeared in demonstrations and productions. Thorn, Toro, Little London and London Jr. each belong to this wider working context, even where surviving credits are incomplete.
Stories of judgement
Eisenmann’s later accounts include stories that he interpreted as a dog’s judgement or decision-making. They remain his recollections of the dogs and what he believed he saw in them.
